Deeper revelation from the epistle of 2 Peter
2 Peter
Chapter 1
v1. What a glorious blessing we have received by obtaining a precious thing such as faith. Placing faith in Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and being born again into a a new life with the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed to us is not something man can initiate. This precious faith we have received for the salvation of our souls is a glorious gift of GOD. And we ought to be at awe and filled with gratitude toward GOD for this faith that is birthed in our hearts which eventually will save our souls from the fires to come.
v2. Grace and peace from GOD abounds and multiplies in our lives as we grow in the knowledge of GOD. We need much grace to depart from the influence of sin and evil that is constantly trying to master us. And much peace is needed in our lives so that we can serve GOD with a clean conscience. Peace in our inner man is required to maintain a conscience that feels pardoned and covered by the blood of Christ, grounded in the love of GOD. Now both grace and peace will only be multiplied as we grow in the knowledge of GOD by spending time in the Word and applying the revelation in our lives.
v3. GOD is calling us to attain glory. It is all about the life to come. We as believers need to realize that our life on earth is temporary and short lived and the bottom line of everything is the life to come; the eternal life that GOD has prepared for all who wants to enter in. Today GOD has provided us with all things needed for a man to walk godly on earth and inherit eternal life. No person can use the excuse of not having at his disposal the power needed to walk a holy life. God’s divine power has today given us all things needed for attaining eternal life through godliness. A person receives this divine power through growing in the knowledge of GOD, His nature, His purpose.
v4. You will not attain glory or heaven without a virtuous walk. The glorious body and the glorious existence in heaven that GOD has prepared is only for those who love Him and walk in truth and virtue. In lieu of this glory, GOD has given unto us exceeding great and precious promises so that we may be motivated to continually walk in truth and partake of the righteous nature of GOD while here on earth. In order to walk in the virtues of GOD, one need to continually escape the corruption that is in the fallen world through lusts. And then look forward to the new heavens and the new earth, where there is no more sin or corruption, a place where you will dwell with GOD forever.
v5-11 Since we have such a great calling, we have to be diligently engaged in building up our spiritual life, for without getting actively engaged in this growth process, we will not enter the promise of life to come. We have to add to our faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, and to knowledge temperance, and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness and to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things abound in us, we will be sure to not go barren or unfruitful in our spiritual calling. So in other words, it is possible for a person to have knowledge about GOD and still go barren or unfruitful because they have neglected the building process that comes as a responsibility in your faith in GOD. It is our duty as believers to be constantly engaged in adding all the characteristics mentioned above. or else we soon become forgetful about the calling and purpose of GOD in our salvation and fall away from faith. Therefore to assure a place in eternity, it is important that you run the race till the end. And so that you may run the race till the end and not end up falling away at some point of the race, you ought to abound in virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness and love. Thus if we remain active in our duty towards GOD, we shall one day gloriously enter into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
v12-13- It is good be remind ourselves and others of the everlasting kingdom that is to soon appear and the pressing need to grow in practical righteousness in order to grow in the relationship with GOD and finally enter into eternal life. For without these reminders, we have a tendency to forget about these truths and remain complacent and lazy here on earth.
v14-21. The Messiah, His sacrfifice, and eternal life are all real and not some fabricated cunning man made stories. The Apostles were eye witnesses of the majesty, honour and glory of Jesus Christ on several occasions such as during water baptism of the Lord Jesus and transfiguration at the mount. And the apostles of Jesus Christ confirmed their profession of faith by shedding their own blood for the cause of Christ. In addition to this, every prophecy in the Old Testament about the Messiah was fulfilled in the man Jesus Christ. The prophecy regarding the coming Messiah in the dark old testament period was like the sight of light at the end of a dark tunnel, revealing hope and deliverance. Now the Messiah is here and HE has finished His mission. All you got to do is open your eyes and see the light for yourself and embrace the victory HE has accomplished on your behalf.
Chapter 2
v1-6. Just as there were false teachers and prophets in the old testament, so does today we have false teachers and prophets who craftily brings false teachings and heresies which if embraced results in eternal fires of hell. For their teachings divert a person from the true essence and destination of the gospel and ensnares them. These false teachers who once were genuine followers of GOD, now have drifted away from pure faith, denying even the LORD who had regenerated them and now have set themselves up for swift destruction. And many shall embrace these deceptive and erroneous teachings. One of the chief marks of these false teachers is that they are money minded. They will fool many people through their deceptive words luring the people to give money, promising them earthly blessings and gains such as that is attractive to the flesh. Now because of these men and their followers, a false and erroneous face of christianity will be portrayed to the world and will be evil spoken of by others. But woe is to such false prophets and teachers for their judgment and damnation is drawing near. Just as GOD did not spare the angels that sinned, or spared not the world except Noah and family, and turning the cities of sodom and gomorrha into ashes, so will the end of all that lives ungodly.
